In Nico: Underground, directed by Michael Schiralli, Tammy Faye Starlite stars as the '60s icon, Warhol superstar and Velvet Underground centerpiece who was born Christina Paffagen in pre-war Cologne, Germany. Starlite has spent the better part of four years developing the original script that draws from videos, interviews, biographies, rare recordings as well as first person interviews with those who personally knew the Teutonic chanteuse. Her seriocomic portrayal is a masterful characterization that includes performance of songs by Lou Reed, Jim Morrison, Jackson Browne, David Bowie, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, Rogers and Hart as well as Nico’s own compositions. Nico: Underground’ is the world's first and only Sturm und Drang jukebox musical. The show’s backing band includes Keith Hartel (bass, guitar), Richard Feridun (guitar), Ron Miracle Metz (drums) Dave Dunton (keyboard) and Craig Hoek (sax, flute). Tammy Faye is joined onstage by Jeff Ward as The Interviewer; the two recreate actual encounters Nico had with journalists, based on the text by T. D. Lang.
