The Harlem Repertory Theater continues it's 2015 season with Lorraine Hansberrys groundbreaking drama A Raisin in the Sun. A Raisin in the Sun opens September 18th and will run every Friday at 7pm until December 11th.An American classic, takes place in the late ‘50s in a south side Chicago apartment, chronicling the lives of the members of an African-American family. The tensions and prejudice they face create the drama in this beloved play.Originally produced in 1959, Lorraine Hansberrys A Raisin in the Sun was the first play written by an African American woman to be produced on Broadway, where it won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play. The Washington Post has called it “one of a handful of great American dramas”.The HRT's production of A RAISIN IN THE SUN is be directed by five time AUDELCO Winner, Keith Lee Grant. A cast of ten talented actors will perform an expressionistic interpretation of A RAISIN IN THE SUN in an environmental setting: playing scenes only inches away from the audience.
