The Revolving Door is a drama with poetic verse and musical overtones. The play is about the interpersonal relationships between the staff and residents in an institution for mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Two stories unfold through Tommy, Eddie and Linda. Tommy (staff) an aspiring actor/singer takes Eddie (resident) home for a visit. Tommy develops a friendship with Eddie and goes above and beyond his job guidelines to help Eddie get into a group home. Linda (Staff) aspires to be a registered nurse and to move on from her work at the institution. While she is there she is confronted by the harsh realities of her work and betrayal of a friendship. The Scenes fade from the apartment to the institution where we see the daily living conditions of the residence and their interaction with staff members.
