The Beholder
2010, 52 minutes
Directed by Conor Horgan

The Beholder is a documentary film about portraiture and explores three of Ireland’s most notable painters at work: James Hanley, Mick O’Dea and Brian Maguire. Through these painters, the documentary examines the importance of painted portraits, as an emblem of power and prestige, as a political act and as a memorial.
