The International WOW presents a dance-theater epic focusing on the origins of our species voracious desire. The company asks, could the pursuit of joy be the great ruling principle for human history? Beginning with Genesis and traveling thousands of years to present-day New York, the piece tracks a single aspect of our nature--our ceaseless quest for joy--through human history. International WOW invites you to a space between dreaming and waking, where lovers meet, have children and die in a span of five minutes, where huge families assemble to create cave drawings on and with their bodies; to a massive tomato fight where audience members are encouraged to throw their own tomatoes; to underwater scenes where dancers covered in chocolate pudding narrowly escape from shadow-puppet sharks. The spacious Flamboyan Theater and its surroundings (including the adjacent expansive parking lot) will be transformed into scary and intensely amusing world of perpetual pleasure. Joy may prove to be just as dangerous and unpredictable as anything we can feel. |
