Length: 1 hr 30 mins Intermission(s): Unknown Seating: General Admission You choose your seats when you get to the theater.
Presented by Working Man's Clothes (winner of 6 NYIT Awards for To Nineveh) and The Thursday Problem (Dread Awakening at the 45th Street Theatre), in association with Jeffrey Schulman (Keith Reddin's Brutality of Fact at Urban Stages), fuckplays is a voyeuristic journey through eight playwrights' most private places; a sincere examination of our most basic carnal desires. Over sixty submissions from across the country were narrowed down to the eigh best, a provocative cross-section of approaches encompassing fantasy, fetishism, humor, myth, submission, voyeurism, violence, and love.
From American Apparel ads to Sex and the City, we live in a world where consumer marketing runs by the dictum: Sex sells! But in a society where explicit sex and pornography have veered ever closer to the mainstream, do we have a more unrealistic view of sex than ever before?
Eight sexually-charged ten-minute plays written by some of NYC's hottest emerging playwrights will answer that question: Obie Award-winner Kyle Jarrow (A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant), NYIT Award-winner Bekah Brunstetter (To Nineveh: A Modern Miracle Play), Eric Sanders (creator and playwright of Dread Awakening), New School University's MFA Playwright William Charles Meny (The Discomposers), Columbia University's MFA Playwright Joshua Hill (The Impotence of Being Ernest), and mythic fiction writer Casey Wimpee (Bloody Elephants), coupled with a pair of the Lone Star State's most explicit dramatists: screenwriter Justin Cooper (Flickgrifter's Union) and Greg Romero (The Shelter). Directors include Thomas Caruso (Diagnosis at 59E59), NYIT Award-winner Isaac Byrne (To Nineveh), Stephen Brackett (Bloody Mary at CSV), Matthew Hancock (Dracula at Urban Stages), Steven Gillenwater (Oceanside Parkway at American Place Theatre), Diana Basmajian (Play With Faun), Julie Rossman (Discovering Columbus), and Cole Wimpee (The Woodpecker).
