"I wanna be a different girl born on a different day."

So says one of the young girls in Count Down - a story of a group of girls in a residential facility for abused and neglected teens. Carmela, a teaching artist is hired to lead them through a 40 day arts program, but the girls want no part of her or her arts program. They sabotage the lessons until Carmela decides to abandon the project. On what Carmela believes to be her final day, the girls share their personal histories and for the first time, they succeed as a group. Carmela stays and the real battle begins.
