On Saturday 19 August, catch will celebrate its third year of presenting short works by the most exciting emerging and established artists from the downtown scene with a mammoth, blow-out 3rd birthday show: 30-odd acts on two stages.
Jeff and Andrew are particularly excited to host John Moran, the Theatre of a Two-Headed Calf, Adrienne Truscott, the Butane Group, Karinne Keithley , Jennie Marytai Liu, Nellie Tinder ... well, they're all great. The complete list is below.
Catch is a bimonthly performance and video series presenting seven-minute works, curated and hosted by Andrew Dinwiddie and Jeff Larson. Founded in 2003 by Jenny Seastone Stern as a home for the emerging avant-garde, Catch has grown in Jeff and Andrew's hands, presenting the work of more established artists such as Big Dance Theater, David Neumann, Cynthia Hopkins, Karinne Keithley, Neal Medlyn, Jennifer Monson, Witness Relocation, Chris Yon and members of the National Theater of the United States of America.
Catch still presents emerging artists, but it now offers them the opportunity to share a stage with downtown luminaries. This makes everyone's work more exciting, raising the stakes for young creators and encouraging experimental freedom by established artists.
Since moving to Galapagos' back room last year, catch has played to packed houses. Galapagos' roughly glorious architecture, it's full stages and full bars, enable Jeff and Andrew to craft a show unique among group shows. Catch is a social hour and a serious show, where loyal fans of the individual artists mingle with catch allegiates to view work they know will be rough and ready.
