Showcase of works by choreography competition winners: Sidra Bell, Peter Davison, Jennifer Hart, Cindy Mancini, Anne Mueller and Gina Paterson.

Native New Yorker Sidra Bell is an emerging voice in contemporary dance with a strong female vision creating work that ignites the imagination and explores the complexities of humanity. Ms. Bell has received commissions from Ailey II, Ballet Austin, Sacramento Ballet, Springboard Danse Montreal and The Juilliard School. Ballet Builders will be presenting her work Opus Romanza. The music for the ballet was written by her father, composer Dennis Bell.

Artistic Director of Boulder Ballet, Peter Davison’s childhood idols were Alexander Calder and Batman, influences that led to training in visual art, juggling and dance. You will see these influences in the two excerpts from his ballet Cirque D ‘Amour Davison has a good theatrical sense and knows how to entertain.

In 2005, Jennifer Hart was a participant of Ballet Builders with her duet, Aria. This work was commissioned in 2006 by Metropolitan Ballet and led to a commission to choreograph a full-length production of A Midsummer Night's Dream for the same company. Her newest ballet Trio for One to traditional Japanese melodies will premiere on the Ballet Builders program in March, featuring three terrific dancers from Ballet Austin.

A native of New Jeresy, Cindy Mancini began her dance career with Ballet South in Memphis. She returned home to join the New Jersey Ballet, where she danced for several years before auditioning for West Side Story, touring with both national and international companies. Now living in North Carolina, she formed Signature, an ensemble whose name pays homage to the group’s commitment to original choreography and style. Her work, Counterpart, is a pas de duet I think you will enjoy its subtle male and female physical humor.

Anne Mueller is currently a principal dancer with Oregon Ballet Theatre. Her work Heartaches and Hotcakes is set to seven songs by Patsy Cline, performed by the company dancers.

Gina Paterson’s first appearance in Ballet Builders was in 1995 as a dancer. Her first work, Insideout, was presented at Ballet Builders 2002 and is now in the repertoire of Ballet Austin. Since her first choreographic appearance in Ballet Builders she has had works commissioned by Ballet Austin, Ballet Pacifica, Ballet East, Dayton Ballet, Hubbard Street 2, Montana Ballet, Nashville Ballet and Richmond Ballet. Ballet Builders 2009 will be presenting her work In Time featuring dancers from DanceWorks Chicago.
