Keely Garfield Dance back at DMAC with Twin Pines.

Two trees walk into a forest; one says to the other, “We’ll never make it out alive!”

Twin Pines gets lost in thought and tries to think its way out the same way you might if you got lost in the woods. During a silent retreat in 2009, Garfield sat quietly listening to the deafening “jack hammer” of noise emanating from a densely packed mind. Moment to moment murder, and mayhem were committed followed by elation and ennui. Here and there, space like a clearing. Twin Pines is a moving meditation on what happens and what does not. What is clear is that the inevitable dissolution of all thought, all shape, all activism, all particularity of expression invests dancing itself with valor and vitality.

For these performances Garfield is joined by extraordinary forces of nature, Brandin Steffensen, Omagbitse Omagbemi, Anthony Phillips and Matthew Brookshire who will write and perform original music. Sets and costumes are by Keely Garfield. Lights by Burke Wilmore. Twin Pines was commissioned by DMAC-Duo Multicultural Arts Center.

"It’s been 18 months since Ms. Garfield’s last major eruption, and I still can’t say what that work was fully about — only that I want more of her hallucinatory, uncomfortable meditations on the human condition. This fall, she’ll occupy all three floors of the Duo Multicultural Arts Center." By CLAUDIA LA ROCCO NY Times 9/12/2010

SOLD OUT PERFORMANCES: A WAITING LIST FOR RETURNED TICKETS WILL BE STARTED AT THE BOX OFFICE ON THE DAY OF THE PERFORMANCE AT 7:30 pm.
