Celebrate HIAS' 130th Anniversary and join us for the festivities to launch HIAS' new book HIAS@130: 1+30, the Best of myStory.

The stories in this book represent one of the great migrations in HIAS’ history: the resettlement of hundreds of thousands of Jews from the former Soviet Union to become part of the North American Jewish community.

In this book, you will find 30 stories (plus one poem) that were posted on myStory.hias.org, a site created by HIAS to preserve the stories of those who emigrated from the Soviet Union, the FSU, and other countries. These selections demonstrate humor, poignancy, realism, and dreams, seen through the lens of those who—for the sake of their own families and future generations—left everything behind to begin anew in freedom and hope.

The program will include greetings from myStory Chair Genia Brin; an opportunity to meet authors Boris Fishman, Alex Matlin, Boris Kievsky, Margie Gelbwasser, and others; musical performances by HIAS Scholar Elina Akselrud, pianist, and Rebecca Branovan, singer; and light refreshments.

Guest host: Sandee Brawarsky,
New York Jewish Week book critic

Special guest: Gal Beckerman,
author of When They Come For Us We'll Be Gone and winner of the 2012 Sami Rohr prize.
