BalaSole Dance Company, Inc. Presents
CONTRASTS
Saturday, July 14, 2012 through Sunday, July 15, 2012

BalaSole is a hybrid creature. It's part dance company and part showcase for aspiring dancer/choreographers. Where it succeeds is in the presentation of skilled artists who command the stage in their self-made solos. - Tim Martin, Dance Europe

Length: 1 hr 20 mins
Intermission: Yes
Seating: General Admission
You choose your seats when you get to the theater.

In BalaSole Dance Company's 8th concert season, Executive/Artistic Director Roberto Villanueva and 9 artists will present new solos inspired by various themes ranging from a ritual sacrifice of chosen virgin youth, the rise and fall of domestic abuse, the refugees' road to liberation, to a NYC subway dance.

BalaSole Dance Company has provided visibility to at least 73 underrepresented artists since its world premiere in August 2010. It is the only dance organization in the U.S. dedicated to bridging the gaps in concert dance. Following successful productions at The Baryshnikov Arts Center's Jerome Robbins Theater, Dance Theater Workshop and Tribeca Performing Arts Center, the company has earned praises from critics for promoting diversity and showcasing talented dance artists of various sizes, shapes, ages, ethnicities, and styles. BalaSole provides dance artists an arena to showcase their artistic voice. Every BalaSole concert features a different roster of dance artists. Past participants include members of the Limón Dance Company, Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Lucinda Childs Dance, Parsons Dance and Michael Mao Dance. Villanueva, rejected earlier in his dance career by dance companies for his small physique, founded BalaSole Dance Company and has been hailed by The New York Times for his technical virtuosity and compelling personality.

This concert will feature Emily Aiken, Musashi Alvarez, Ann Sterling Dale, Jenny Efremova, Stephanie Flackman, Sunday Jackson, Ricardo Mateo Rique-Sanchez, Yvanhova Silva, and Roberto Villanueva. Emerging artist Harriet Boateng-Ado will also perform with the company.

BalaSole Dance Company is the resident dance company of the College of Mount Saint Vincent. For more information on BalaSole Dance Company, visit www.balasoledance.org.
