BASKET CASE, released in 1982, tells the story of a young man who carries his deformed conjoined twin brother in a large basket while seeking vengeance on the doctors who separated them against their will. Written and directed by Frank Henenlotter, BASKET CASE became a cult hit and spawned two sequels.
“Casey---30 Years Later” catches up with Bonner’s character from the film series, she owns a lower East Side Bar in Ney York City has a stable of Mature Ladies of the Evening to help with the expenses of the Bar and Home upstairs.Casey is interviewed by a fan, a college reporter (played by Garo Nalbandian) who seeks to find out what she’s been up to all these years. Other key players are Kitty, Casey’s sexy, trashy, dumb bar waitress obsessed with Reality Shows, played by the hilarious, Maria Aparo and Janaya Williams plays Casey’s Religious Fanatic niece, Judy. As an official partner for NYC Pride, DMAC will showcase a diverse range of works, including paintings by contemporary artist Seth Ruggles Hiler, performative exhibitions by Michelangelo Alasa', and dance by the burgeoning MADboots dance co. The week will conclude with a film festival, "Gay Shorts"-highlighting a rich array of queer stories. In an effort to increase the accessibility of PRIDE @ DMAC programming, admission to events at DMAC ranges from $10-FREE. limited 4-week engagement.
In “Stop the Tempo” three alienated scenesters in their
20’s express their disillusion with fitting in to the new
Bucharest, which has changed utterly since the fall of
Communism. Now, neon signs pulse on every building,
shopping malls fill every suburb, dance music pumps from
every stereo, the TVs are turned up loud, and everyone is
pushed to spend spend spend. Subsequent to its
Romanian premiere, other memorable productions across Europe
have tapped a growing malaise for global consumerism.
In New York, the Belfast-born Torney adapts the play’s
central currency to explore our own oscillating urges to
disconnect in an utterly connected world.
