Jones and staged and directed by Bette Howard, tells the story of a Negro League baseball player who some say died of a broken heart. Additional Notes:
Special Thanks from the Playwright A debt of gratitude is owed to all who helped make this production possible. This includes every person who held out a helpful and welcoming hand at the Theater for the New City and each member of the talented cast and crew. We especially thank Crystal Field for continuing to hold, convey and demonstrate appreciation and support for my work. It remains a significant goal to do all I can to ensure her confidence is well-placed. The subject matter about which I write, while often socially significant to many, is not always the most commercial in nature and therefore not always indicative of that which would normally be seen as worthy of financial support. This tends to ring true for those who think first and most of the “bottom line” or extent to which the shows pizazz, bells and whistles will sound an alarm for flash in the pan hoopla and monetary support. For us, it is not about a feel-good moment. To the contrary, we seek to be a viable vehicle for the presentation of interesting subject matter and talented actors who can help spark thoughtful contemplation and needed conversations. It is such conversations that have the potential for changing a tide of thought and behavior, inspiring understanding, acceptance and change that can be most far-reaching and ever-lasting. Person by person and heart by heart, we wish to be the change that we seek. I sincerely thank each individual who has taken time to see what we have presented and to read about our team members who have worked tirelessly to help bring this production to you. We truly hope you have enjoyed it and will reach out in the event you want to see us perform for you in the future at your favorite theater, school, church, park or special event. There is no place too big, too small or too far. We love what we do and love bringing it to you! Thank you again for making this production so special by just being a part of it. Whether you were in the audience, on the
