City: New York

Additional Notes:
This story is based on true events and the plight of real people. Written and directed by Michael Vazquez, Finding My Way Back Home? Is a play with characters that glimmer with aspiration and humor, although they are experiencing an arduous journey. As a consequence of poor choice making and/or consequences beyond their control, they propelled into dreadful circumstances. Each with their own reasons. Each with their own determination. Each on a path that parallels itself with a brewing storm that is about to take control of the city. As the storm swells into a hurricane, Hurricane Tammy, the characters’ paths meet during the height of the storm. Because they have homelessness in common, they form a bond and assist each other out of the storm. They all find themselves in Esmeralda’s basement where they encounter a wonderful surprise. Come and enjoy a joyous evening with the characters of Finding My Way Back Home? As they take you along on their journey back home.

Venue: ( Theater For the New City)
Theater For the New City
Producer: ( Theater for the New City)
Theater for the New City
City: New York

Additional Notes:
Set in a penitentiary in Colombia-a country with notoriously overcrowded and violent prisons-MAXIMUM SECURITY explores the lives of three cellmates and one guard, as they navigate a labyrinth of degradation and survival tactics behind bars. This provocative play offers an unflinching glimpse into the daily psychological, social, and physical battles fought by the people held within a deeply flawed justice system. Here the incarcerated-at various stages of their careers as inmates-form uneasy friendships and alliances, strategizing and bartering with each other and the guards for access to basic goods and protection from a variety of shifting threats. There is rampant sabotage and subterfuge, mental and physical sickness, rotten food, water shortage crises, and scant medical care. Inmates are periodically thrown into the dreaded hole-a torture chamber, and emerge only to find themselves in the midst of a series of explosive, divisive riots. Meanwhile, intensive conversations, a result of the singular intimacy developed between people forced to spend days on end together, reveal the circumstances outside that turned the three men into prisoners. Delving into the depths of despair and political and personal indignation, MAXIMUM SECURITY is marked by a palpable mix of existential fury and black humor-which here become survival tactics themselves. One hour prior to select performances will be Prison Politics-conversations led by a panel of legal experts, human rights advocates, and journalists, moderated by German Jaramillo, Director of ID Studio, that will explore the complex question of prisoners' rights and prison reform. These discussions will seek to contextualize and ground in current events the issues raised in the play, and to expand public awareness and engagement. Each panel will include a Q&A session, and additional materials and information will be available for dissemination.

Limited 16 Week Engagement! In a run-down movie theater in central Massachusetts, three underpaid employees mop the floors and attend to one of the last 35-millimeter film projectors in the state. Their tiny battles and not-so-tiny heartbreaks play out in the empty aisles, becoming more gripping than the lackluster, second-run movies on screen. With keen insight and a finely-tuned comic eye, The Flick is a hilarious and heart-rending cry for authenticity in a fast-changing world.
“Wondrous, devastating, hilarious, and infinitely touching. ‘The Flick’ won my heart. A play to be treasured.” - Charles Isherwood, The New York Times “The tenderest drama --- funny, heartbreaking, sly, and unblinking --- now playing at a theater near you. ‘The Flick’ may be the best argument anyone has yet made for the continued necessity, and profound uniqueness, of theater.” - Jesse Green, New York Magazine “Grade: A. A moving and magnificent comedy. ‘The Flick’ is a masterpiece.” - Entertainment Weekly “‘The Flick’ is stunning. Incisive and inventive and unexpectedly moving.”
- Huffington Post “Extraordinary and hilarious. Bursting with compassion.”
- The Hollywood Reporter “Thrilling and sensational. Even if you’ve already experienced ‘The Flick’, see it again. And prepare to be even more blown away.”
- Theatremania “The best play of the year.”
